Afterwards - Naughty but nice . . .
Ten naughty but nice ways to make sure your wedding night is something to celebrate.
The big day is nearly over, but the big event is still to come: your wedding night! It doesn’t matter if you’ve been living together for a decade; you still want this night to be something really special. Here are some ideas to take on board:
1 - Slowly does it
Savour the moment. While stress and exhaustion might mean that your wedding night doesn’t deliver the most excellent sex of your lives – it should bring you many romantic experiences which will become your treasured memories. Remember that you are both worth time and effort, like a gourmet meal, you should take your time with this special night. Undress your partner and tell them how sexy they are. Run a deep bath with scented bubbles or oil and climb in together, light candles around it and soak for a while with your limbs entwined – good for your soul and good for your sex life!
2 - Read some sexy books
Both of you! A couple of weeks before the big day, give your partner your favourite sexy book. If it has a particularly steamy sex scene in it, make sure you turn down the pages so your other half finds it! For yourself, buy a good sex manual and read it – there are always things you can learn, and giving your partner a wedding night surprise with some new physical or romantic discovery is a great way to get your married life off to an amazing start.
3 - Talk to each other
Spend some time relaxing, talking about the wedding, and about your love for each other. Remember any funny or horrible moments about the day, and the key moments leading up to it, your first date, your first row, the proposal etc. Think forward to your first, tenth and twenty-fifth wedding anniversaries ... settling this special day in your minds will help you to focus on the night to come.
4 - Expand your idea of the "wedding night"
If you’re tired, or feeling a bit ill, then sex may not be very satisfying. Consider whether a smooch and cuddle might be all you need for tonight, because there’s always the morning, when you might be feeling all fresh and ‘up for it’.
5 - Flirt with each other during the wedding
During your wedding day, remember to find time for each other. A little bit of flirting and the odd snatched kiss will delight your guests and build your expectation for the evening ahead when you’re alone. Don’t get sucked into meeting and greeting your family and long lost friends and forgetting the purpose of the day – to celebrate having found the person you love and intend to spend the rest of your life with.
6 - Wear something special
Wedding night lingerie can really set the tone – pick something a little naughty, and a few days before the wedding let your lover have a sneak peek of what you’ll be wearing that night – it all helps to build his expectations and give you confidence that the party doesn’t end when you reach the honeymoon suite.
7 - Set the stage
Some scented candles (remember to pack a lighter) will add to the romantic mood. Put some special music on – remember to pack that too, and scatter some rose petals on the bed. It all adds to the perfection of the moment, and low light, pleasant aromas and gorgeous music will help you to feel relaxed, romantic and ready.
8 - Pillow letters
Agree to write a love letter to each other and exchange them in your honeymoon hotel. In yours, write down all the things you love about your other half and all the exciting things you want to do in bed – that will definitely set the right mood!
9 – The food of love
Room service is wonderful. Ring your hotel and check the menu – and if you or your partner have a favourite sexy dish, the hotel might be able to cater it for you if you give advance notice. Chocolates, champagne, a half bottle of vintage port, fresh fruit ... all these things add to the overall experience – and if you didn’t eat much during the day, you need some ballast in you for all the excitement ahead!
10 - Pack a fallback
Remember to pack a favourite video in case it all goes wrong. You may be too tired, or he may be exhausted, or one of you may get tipsy, or develop a migraine (hey, on my wedding night, hubby and I both had migraines – it happens!) and something you can lounge on the bed and watch together will relax you. Remember, you’ve got the rest of your life ahead, and tomorrow morning may be when your wedding night starts with a bang!
